November 2004 Fire Calls & Safety Tip of the Month

Madisonville Volunteer Fire Department responded to 21 calls during the month of November 2004. Fourteen of these calls were within the city limits of Madisonville, and seven of them were out in the county. Of those calls, three were grass fire calls, eight were structure fire calls, seven were vehicle fire calls, one was a gas spill, and two were classified as other type calls.

Volunteers also attended four drills during the month of November, focusing on SCBA and protective clothing.

RED HOT SAFETY TIP OF THE MONTH:

The holiday season is upon us, bringing much joy, but also many more fire hazards than we ordinarily have in our homes!

Cooking large meals, decorating with lights and candles, displaying Christmas trees with indoor and/or outdoor lighting, setting off fireworks, and children visiting in unfamiliar homes all make for increased fire hazards.

Plan ahead by positioning decorations away from fire sources, such as draperies, home furnishings, or carpeting. If you have small children visiting, why not share this fun page with them for the holidays:
